SOUNDTRACK TALK (Week One)

Sound track stems  (Week One)

- Dialogue : is narration/voiceover written or spoken-ADR-
- Music :   Musical score - Classical to a modern day sound track
- Fx       (stems are each part in a group for final mix)


Dialogue- Spoken word narration on location during the filming production
team- Boom Operator, Sound Mixer, cables, utility person 
- The sound crew aim is to capture dialogue from the actors as cleanly as possible
- The sound crew captures the "room tone" and a few of the Environment Sounds

Dubbing stage
- Pre production (list of gear, equipment needed/script/on location
- Production - (On set boom operator/live mixer)
- Post Production- Overdubs- music-mix-Fx

The final Dub Mix
- All elements of the sound track have been recorded and edited , then mixed together Ac3 File 6 track

ADR Automated Dialogue Replacement- 
the process of recording dialogue from the actor post production

Foley
- Live action/movement on the Foley stage 
-Footsteps -clothing rustling, doors etc

On the Foley stage 
1 Recorder 
2 Artist
3 Mixer

Location Recording Formats
Nagra III - 1/4 inch analog tape in mono
2 track
Nagra II - Analog
Nagra 8  - eight track mixer - high pass filter- pod attenuator


Terminology 

"Wild takes" eg. trains, busse's you can't see what's going on but you get the sound grabs

"Worldising" On location Sound Reverbs -tunnels - carparks


"Anamatic" : Is a script where the director will have marker spot's for the animation

AC-3 fILE
Dolby Digital (AC-3) is Dolby's third generation audio coding algorithm. It is a perceptual coding algorithm developed to allow the use of lower data rate with a minimum of perceived degration of sound quality.

Lulu- It's great to see how it all works I had a fair idea but I never new the name "Wild take" and "Worldising" was I new it was a part of the process but it's good to know the terminology for professional context. I didn't Know the terminology for Anamatic Tim and I have used this a lot in out project but never new the word for it. 

I didn't know what a Nagra was, old school gear is good to know if we ever need to record / mix on set for a shoot!

I have done a lot of the dubbing stages in prior work so I feel like i'm down with all of that process
